Science Versus Religion

Science - the study of the natural world; relies on observation and experimentation to probe the natural world; used to describe the "How" of the world

Religion - the study of the supernatural world; relies on eyewitness accounts and faith to explain both the natural and supernatural worlds; used to describe the "Why" of the world

Examples: Evolution (Theory of Faunal Succession) vs. Creationism

Theory of Faunal Succession - based on observation of species that have genetically changed and on the fossil record; it can be disproved by finding fossils that do not match the theory

Creationism - belief based on biblical accounts; relies on a supreme being that created a universe very recently; cannot be disproved

Creationist Science - a pseudoscience that attempts to marry religion and science that either 1) relies on a supreme being that purposefully structured the universe to confuse mankind into believing evolution or 2) relies on science to be constantly changing, i.e. things today operate differently than they used to do.  This is not science.
