Assignment 3: Configure a Computer System

Due Date: In class on Tuesday, September 12

Visit the Web site of a PC vendor such as Dell, Gateway, or HP. Configure a desktop microcomputer system that costs no more than $1200 and includes at least the following:

Minimum System Requirements
Monitor: 17" LCD
Memory: 1GB RAM
Hard Drive: 160GB
Optical Drive(s): CD-RW and DVD-ROM (separate drives or one combo drive)
Sound Card: any
Speakers: any
Modem: any
Network card: any
OS: Windows XP (any version)
Software: Microsoft Office (any version)
Warranty: Two years (or more)

Do not include a printer in your system. However, you may exceed the minimum specifications listed above if you can do so and stay within your budget. The point is to get the most for the money you have allocated for the system. Do not include taxes or shipping in the price of the system.

Submission Guidelines:

Print the specifications of the PC system you configured as a PDF and upload it to WebCT discussion entitled "Online PC Configuration."

Portable Docment Format (PDF) is a file format that preserves document formatting and appearance across multiple displays and printers. You need the free Adobe Reader to view PDF files.

In order to create PDF files, you need Adobe Acrobat or a free alternative such as CutePDF and a converter.
