Committees and Activities of Georgia Lakes Society


PUBLICATION COMMITTEE: GLS publishes a quarterly newsletter covering such topics as water-related legislative issues, lake management techniques, ecological functioning of lakes, lake association successes and activities, lake fisheries, and lake research efforts and reports, as well as GLS activities. To submit information to the GLS newsletter, e-mail Joe Dirnberger. GLS also publishes a membership directory and fact sheets on the ecology and management of lakes.

MONITORING COMMITTEE: The monitoring committee has recently been involved in creating manuals to empower citizens to monitor the own lakes. The manuals and training sessions across the state will standardize efforts of citizens to monitor water quality and initiate a state-wide data base. This program is in partnership with the Georgia EPD's Adopt-A-Stream Program. For more information on Adopt-A-Lake, click here GLS is also a participant in the annual Great American Secchi Dip-In .

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE: The membership committee is responsible for maintaining membership records and investigating ways to recruit new members. For more information on this committee, e-mail Tom Broadwell.

POLICY COMMITTEE: The policy committee is responsible for issuing position statements. For more information on this committee, e-mail Carl Quertermus.

CORPORATE RELATIONS COMMITTEE: This committee is currently investigating and pursuing sources of funding for GLS. For more information on this committee, e-mail Marty Williams.
