Personal
Information
A Glimpse of my Personal Life
I was born on May 8, 1948
in Cleveland, OH. I attended Landon Elementary School
and West High School, both of which no longer
exist. I attended Hiram College for my
undergraduate degree in Chemistry. It was at Hiram where I met my future wife,
Martha (Marty) Comstock Williams from Smithsburg, MD. We were married in Hagerstown, MD
on June 13, 1970.
We moved that same year to Athens,
GA to pursue our Ph.D.'s, mine in
Inorganic Chemistry and her's in Zoology at the University
of Georgia. We returned to Northeast Ohio
for two years to teach until a position came open at Kennesaw Junior College.
We returned south where I started my job at KJC, and Marty found a position at
the Cecil B. Day Campus of Mercer University Atlanta where she eventually
became head of the Biology Department until the liberal arts school of the
campus officially closed in 1990. We currently live in Marietta, GA
with three cats (no children).
What do I do when I'm not professing at KSU? My hobbies include language
studies with particular interest in German, Welsh, and Spanish, inland waterway navigation ,
philately, economics, racewalking,
choral singing, Celtic culture, and distance running. I have a lifetime goal to
run a race in every state, every state capital, and every county of Georgia
of which there are 159. I've have already completed the goal of running a race
in the state which has the fewest counties in the East--Delaware, which has only three. Rhode Island has
five. I have also run the entire 182 miles of the passable portion of the
C&O Canal Towpath.
I also play recorders with my
wife, and we are active in our church, First
Presbyterian Church of Marietta as choir members and Bethel Bible teachers.
I also volunteer in Pastoral Care Services at WellStar
Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, and I am past vice-president of the St. David's Welsh Society of Georgia.
Additionally, I own my own business principally involved with helping people
establish commercial incomes.
