At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Powers discussed the ACS:
Introduction
Two types of ACS student affiliates: Local and National.
A. Local Chapters
B. Georgia section meetings - the Atlanta area
C. National Meetings - twice per year
Dues
A. $20.00 / year which makes you a national member
B. Make check payable to KSU SAACS. See Carissa or Dr. Powers for an application to be filled out.
C. If you have already paid your national dues for this year, please pay Swapan Jain $3.00 and show him your membership card. The $3.00 goes towards our local chapter for food, field trips, etc.

B. Student Affiliates meeting during the spring of every year
C. National ACS meeting in San Francisco (March)
D. Chemical and Engineering News magazine (17 issues)
E. IN Chemistry magazine which provides tons of info. on careers, grad schools, other chapters, etc.
F. Free access to published journals on a variety of topics
The following dates will be the meetings for the duration of Fall Semester 1999. Meetings will be held on the first Tuesday of every month in Science 215: OCT. 5 and NOV 7
On September 16, there will be a Registered Student Organization Activities fair. This is where all of the clubs on campus will get together and show their stuff. The following ACS members are available to help: Kathy, Laura, Michelle, Jennifer, Tom, Swapan, Chad, and Carissa. Sorry for the lack of last names folks, you know who you are.
-During the first meeting, officers were elected. The names and their newly acquired position will be included in next month’s minutes. Congrats to all who were elected.
-As you all know, the Department of Chemistry provides free tutoring to all who are in need. If you wish to volunteer as a teacher, please see Ben Huck (don’t forget, you get paid). Ben will be posting the hours for tutoring very shortly.

-At the next meeting, we are going to have several students speak on their experiences participating in undergraduate research or internship. If you wish to participate, please see Dr. Jennifer Powers.
-At this meeting, members discussed some ideas for a fieldtrip. Some of the proposed ideas were:
• A tour of The Center for Disease Control. There will be a 12 person limit.
• A rafting or skiing trip
