At this meeting, several ACS members talked about their experiences with co-ops and/or directed studies:
Kurt Buhner on co-ops:
• Students may obtain interview experience
• Builds discipline
• Students may get credit for up to 9 hours of co-op experience
• Students frequently obtain jobs prior to graduation
• If you plan to participate in a co-op, plan to take a couple of classes only
• Ask to see the lab that you’ll be working in
• Plan to sign up for the co-op at least a semester in advance
• Students may see Dr. Reggio if interested in a co-op
• Dr. Combs has some industry contacts
• The ACS has a booklet published once per year that lists companies which participate in co-ops.
• Great resume builder
• Students often get co-publication in a journal or magazine
• The ACS mentioned setting up a booth in the lobby downstairs and hosting a chemistry-related contest between students of local high schools

• Suzanne will contact Sequoia High
• More will be discussed at our next meeting
We will also try to have people to come in and talk about the interview process (for jobs and grad schools).
