Dow P. Hurst

Dow began his formal career in chemistry by working with his father, David R. Hurst, at Hurst Research in 1988. Later, he worked for Spauschus Associates, Inc. in refrigeration chemistry before returning to KSU and graduating in 1996. Dow became associated with the Cannabinoid Research Project as an undergraduate student in 1995 while working toward an ACS certified B.S. in chemistry. Now as the System Administrator for the Chemistry Department and Dr. Patricia Reggio's research group, Mr. Hurst maintains 26 Silicon Graphics computers. He primarily does research consisting of receptor modeling and computational chemistry, as well as ligand docking. "The more we learn about the Cannabinoid receptors, the more I come to understand how complex the body is," comments Dow. As a scientist, Dow reports, "I have been introduced to many interpersonal relationships among scientists and I have come to realize the importance these relationships play in attaining goals in scientific research."

When he is not working on research or sysadmin tasks, Dow enjoys reading novels, exploring Linux, looking at the stars, and playing the guitar. He boasts a large collection of Louis Lamour western novels and an extensive science fiction library. Dow also enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife, Teresa. He and Teresa, a Physician Assistant, have been married since 1990 and live in Acworth, GA.
