The following are some frequently asked questions (FAQs) regarding the MSIS.
I do not have an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or Information Systems. Will I meet admission requirements?
You might. Admission to the MSIS program requires an undergraduate
degree from an accredited institution and successful completion of
either course work or professional work experience in the 5
preparatory knowledge clusters. In the worst case, this will require an
applicant to take 5 undergraduate courses.
I've got a significant amount of experience working with computers, Why do I have to take prerequisite courses?
Even though you may have substantial experience using a computer, that
experience may not equivocate to a semester's work in a specific
technology area. Each of the prerequisite knowledge areas requires a
level of knowledge commensurate with an undergraduate course. Some IT
professionals may have this experience due to professional training or
work experience. Contact the program director for more information on
your case.
I have a degree from a foreign university. Any problems?
Maybe. Undergraduate degrees must be 4 years in length to be considered
the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor's degree. Check with the KSU
admissions office for transcript evaluation instructions. If you are
applying with an undergraduate degree from an institution outside of the United States, you
must have your transcripts evaluated. Click on the following link to

Do I need to submit a GRE or GMAT score before I begin taking MSIS course work?
Yes. You cannot be admitted to the program without an admissible test
score from one of these tests. Your application package will be
considered incomplete and will not be reviewed until your GRE/GMAT scores are received. You may take these tests on-line at any one of several testing sites
around Atlanta, with little or no waiting.
The only exception to this requirement is applicants who already have a
graduate degree from a recognized, accredited institution.
I already have a master's degree. Do I need to retake or submit a GMAT or GRE test score?
Probably not. If your graduate degree is from a recognized, accredited
US institutions, the MSIS Admissions Committee will not require you to
submit a GMAT or GRE score. However if you enrolled in a graduate
degree program but did not complete it, test scores may be required.
Should I take the GRE or the GMAT? Does it matter? What parts of each test should I register for?
It does not matter which test you take; we will accept either one. Both
tests are measurements of general verbal, quantitative, and analytical
writing ability.
How do I know if my GMAT/GRE scores are good enough for admission?
The program expects the successful applicant to possess scores of at least:
- at least of 30 in the verbal category, 30 in the quantitative category and 3.0 in the analytical writing category of the GMAT
OR
- at least 400 in the verbal category, 400 in the quantitative category and 3.0 in the analytical writing category of the GRE.
If your scores are below these levels, you should contact the program
director to see if you need to retake the exam. If they are close
across all three scores, you may still need to retake the exam. It's up
to the admissions committee.
Is the KSU program a part-time or full-time program?
That's up to you. All course work is offered in the evenings, and/or
weekends. The number of courses that you choose to take determines the
pace at which you proceed and finish the program. Most KSU students are
part-time and take 1 or 2 courses per semester.
Are scholarships available for graduate students?
While there are student loans available for US residents, there are no
scholarships available for graduate students. However, there are
competitive need scholarships available outside the university that may
be applied to the MSIS. Check with the financial aid department for
more information.
Are Graduate Assistantships available?
Yes. The is a limited number of Graduate Research Assistantships (GRAs)
each year. Applications are available in the MSIS Program
Office. GRAs are awarded at the end of Spring Semester for the
following academic year.
I work, sometimes out of town. Is class attendance mandatory?
Many of our students work. Each professor will have an attendance policy - all of which take into account that students may miss class due to travel, work commitments, sick children, etc.
Students should work out their schedules with their professor and other
students on their project team.
