The following are some frequently asked questions (FAQs) regarding the MSIS.

Do I need to submit a GRE or GMAT score before I begin taking MSIS course work?

Yes. You cannot be admitted to the program without an acceptable score from one of these tests. Your application package will be considered incomplete and will not be reviewed until your GRE/GMAT scores are received. You may take these tests on-line at any one of several testing sites around Atlanta, with little or no waiting. For more information, visit http://www.ets.org.

The only exception to the GRE/GMAT requirement is for applicants who already have a graduate degree from a regionally accredited institution.

I already have a master's degree. Do I need to retake or submit a GMAT or GRE test score?

Probably not. If your graduate degree is from a regionally accredited US institution, the MSIS Admissions Committee will not require you to submit a GMAT or GRE score. However if you enrolled in a graduate degree program but did not complete it, you will need to take the GRE or GMAT.

Should I take the GRE or the GMAT? Does it matter? What parts of each test should I register for?

It does not matter which test you take; we will accept either one. Both tests are measurements of general verbal, quantitative, and analytical writing ability. You should register to take the General Test of the GRE.

How do I know if my GMAT/GRE scores are good enough for admission?

The MSIS Admissions Committee carefully reviews the applicant's admissions packet. We consider all aspects of a student's background to determine the potential for success in the MSIS program. For applicants who may have a low GRE/GMAT score, a high GPA may compensate for the test score. Likewise, applicants who have high GRE/GMAT scores may compensate for lower GPAs.

I have a degree from a foreign university. Any problems?

If you are applying with an undergraduate degree from an institution outside of the United States, you must have your transcripts evaluated. Click on the following link to learn more about the special requirements for international students:

Is the KSU program a part-time or full-time program?

That's up to you. All course work is offered in the evenings, hybrid, and/or online. The number of courses that you choose to take determines the pace at which you proceed and finish the program. Some MSIS students take 3 or 4 classes per semester and are full-time, and others are part-time and take 1 or 2 courses per semester.

Are Graduate Research Assistantships (GRA) positions available?

Yes. The are a limited number of Graduate Research Assistantships (GRAs) each year. Applicants must apply on-line to be considered for GRA positions.

I work, sometimes out of town. Is class attendance mandatory?

Many of our students work. Each professor will have an attendance policy - all of which take into account that students may miss class due to travel, work commitments, sick children, etc. Students should work out their schedules with their professor and other students on their project team.
