DEGREES
ACS
Certified Biochemistry
The Board of Regents approved this department's
proposal for a B.S. degree in Biochemistry
in 2002. Biochemistry is a discipline that
is applied to medicine, agriculture, clinical
chemistry, food science, pharmacology, and
to study the diagnosis and therapy of disease
and the assessment of health. The B.S. degree
in Biochemistry prepares students to work
in these fields and the emerging biotechnology
industry. By selecting the proper electives,
the student can also receive the ACS certificate
in Biochemistry when completing the professional
track.
Professional Chemistry Track
The professional chemistry track is intended
for people wanting to work in industry as
a chemist or to go to graduate school in chemistry.
The student graduating in this track will
receive a certificate from the American Chemical
Society stating that they have completed an
ACS certified degree program. The Forensic
Chemistry program can be modified so that
students will be qualified for graduate study
in the field. See advisors in SC 409.
General Chemistry
Track
The general chemistry track is intended
for students who want to have a degree track
that will provide them with the basics of
a chemistry degree, but will not prepare them
for graduate school in chemistry. This track
has a lot more flexibility so that students
may take courses in biology and chemistry
to prepare for professional schools: medical,
dental, veterinary, optometry, pharmacy, and
law (patent law especially). General Chemistry
with a concentration in management and business
classes establishes the necessary foundation
for admission into KSU's MBA Graduate Program.
