A degree in Biology or Biotechnology can lead to many different and interesting careers. People with degrees in Biology/Biotechnology work:

In Education -- teaching in high schools and universities
In Government (state, local and federal) - doing research and helping to make policy decisions in organizations such as the Dept. of Natural Resources, EPA, US Fish and Wildlife, Dept. of Agriculture, etc.
In the Private Sector -- By having private practices (e.g., medical, dental, vet) or consulting firms (e.g., environmental); by doing research in larger research firms (e.g., Cryolife, Law Environmental, Johnson & Johnson, etc.).

People with degrees in Biology/Biotechnology can specialize in a number of different areas (subdisciplines) including:

Zoology (working w/animals).
Botany (working w/plants).
Microbiology (working w/very small organisms).
Genetics.
Cell and Molecular Biology.
Ecology/Field Biology/"Environmental" Biology.

The key to success is hard work, commitment, dedication and planning.

Start now -- Do well in All subjects in school.
Take college preparatory curriculum.
- Make certain to take courses in Biology, Chemistry, Math, and Physics
- Do well in English courses (especially those requiring writing).
- Read as much as you can - increase your vocabulary.
- Learn to think critically and analytically.
- Practice public speaking.
- Be able to work on your own AND with others.
