I
just received two job announcements that may be of interest to those of you
seeking employment in the aquatic sciences.
The first is from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. They are looking for temporary summer workers
for their stream sampling team. Pay is
low but it would be excellent experience.
access the announcement. The second is
from the Cobb County Water System. They
are looking for an assistant for their Watershed Education Program. Click here to
access the announcement. If you are
considering applying for either position, drop by and talk with me before
submitting your application.
Class
today (Tuesday, January 30) has been cancelled.
You can get five points extra credit for attending the seminar in
Clendenin 1009 at 9:30. The topic is
“On the ecology of mulching and mowing: Unique ecosystem properties of
urban habitats.”

The
first lab assignment has been posted.
You can access it through the lab link below. It is due on Thursday, February 1.
Friday,
January 19 will be our first day in the field.
Meet in the lab at 9:30 prepared to spend the morning in the stream
across from the church on the west side of campus. The weather will be cold, so dress
appropriately. Since you will be putting
your hands in the water, I would recommend bringing a pair of gloves to warm
them back up.
On
Tuesday, January 23, we will finish lecture by 10:00 am.
We
are tentatively scheduled for a field trip to Mactec Environmental to have a
tour of their facilities on Friday, January 26.

The first meeting of the semester for Aquatic Methods will be on Tuesday, January 9. We will not have lab on Friday, January 5.
Check here frequently for announcements concerning
assignments, alterations in field experiences due to inclement weather and the
occasional bit of inane aquatic trivia.
