Comprehensive, multi-year project that targets traditionally disadvantaged high school students in counties in North Georgia. Program includes CyberTech I and II, curriculum initiatives to introduce high school students to technology and teach them programming principles using Java. The grant also includes the establishment of a computing club and competitions, mentoring activities, and the like, to encourage and retain underrepresented groups into computer science, information systems, and related majors.

Grant (not yet funded): Working with a group of KSU colleagues in the College of Science and Mathematics (CSM) to obtain funding to better ensure success of females in science disciplines. Our recommendations include intensive faculty and student mentoring, development of curriculum materials for students in the "Freshman Experience" and "Senior Experience" courses, and interventions in the middle years (i.e., social gatherings, presentations, etc.) particularly geared towards females in CSM. We offered the first section of the specially focused “Freshman Experience” course in Fall 2003, taught by Dr. Martha Myers and will offer the second section in Fall 2004, taught by Professor Sherri Shade.
